Samsung SDI invests 1.144 billion yuan to expand lithium bat

    Samsung SDI plans to invest 200 billion won (about 1.144 billion yuan) to expand the capacity of its Malaysian lithium battery factory, which currently manufactures cylindrical lithium batteries, according to the elec, a South Korean media report. According to people familiar with the matter, the new production line is expected to produce more than 1 million batteries per month. If all the batteries are 21700 specifications, the annual capacity can reach 2gwh.
Foreign media pointed out that this means that Samsung is very optimistic about the prospect of electric vehicles and intends to expand its international market share.
    It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time Samsung SDI has expanded its production capacity this year. According to the data, in February this year, South Korean media reported that Samsung SDI announced that it plans to invest 942 billion won (about 5.39 billion yuan) in its Hungarian battery factory in 2021, which will be used to expand the capacity of the first battery factory in Hungary (from 30gwh to 40gwh) and build its second battery factory in Hungary.
    Earlier, foreign media sources said that Samsung SDI president Quan yingxuan disclosed that the company is considering entering the U.S. power battery market. This is also the first time that Samsung SDI has publicly disclosed its intention to enter the US market.
